Vice President NFF Advocates For Community Based Football, As Hon Uzosike Kicks Off Tournament 

 

The Member representing  Umuahia South State Constituency at the Abia House of Assembly, Hon Jerry Uzosike, has kick-started the 2022 Unity Cup for the people of Umuahia South.
The football competition which is a yearly tournament, is being organized by the Lawmaker as part of his goal to uncover talents in Umuahia South and also export same to the world.
The first match which featured Ahiaukwu ward 1 and Omaegwu ward,ended in a goal less game at the Ubakala Mini Stadium,in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Interacting with Newsmen shortly after the match, the first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),Felix Anyansi-Agwu, expounded the need for community based football to be encouraged.

According to him, it serves as a breeding ground for new talents, as well as gives room for them to be discovered.
He described the opening game between the Ahiaukwu ward 1 and the Omaegwu ward as a competitive one, which he attributed to his presence at the event, stressing that the players were committed,as well as eager to play.
While commending the House Member for putting up the football competition, Anyansi-Agwu advocated for local football to be promoted,since it has the ability of uniting the people.
Speaking, the host of the yearly Umuahia South Constituency football competition, Hon Jerry Uzosike, stated reasons behind organizing tournament, stressing that the money spent on the competition is not wasted, as already the first match has helped in uncovering a talent in the Omaegwu ward goal keeper.
He further disclosed that at the end of the tournament, there would be prizes to be won, ranging from cash and material gifts.
According to him, the winning team would go home with the sum of five hundred thousand naira(#500,000), the 2nd position, three hundred thousand naira (#300,000), while the 3rd Position goes home with two hundred thousand naira (#200,000) and other consolation prizes to be won.
