Charles Nkotaria, representing a coalition of human rights groups and community organizations, has urged Professor Okey Onochukwu and the university management to promptly establish an internal inquiry panel. This panel is tasked with identifying individuals involved in the alleged extortion of newly hired employees, as well as investigating reported irregularities in staff extortion. Nkotaria emphasized that individuals with complaints should come forward with evidence to support the investigation, potentially leading to refunds.
Speaking during a press conference in Port Harcourt, Nkotaria also called upon the Rivers State government to address the long-standing issue of unpaid salaries for Ignatius Ajuru University of Education workers. He appealed to Governor Fubara to facilitate a review of the employment process to address workforce gaps within the institution.
A coalition group within Rivers State highlighted their comprehensive investigation, revealing that recruited and deployed individuals have been diligently fulfilling their duties despite challenges. Nkotaria underscored the importance of considering payment of the nine months’ overdue salaries for the affected workers, especially given the current circumstances.
In addition, Nkotaria cautioned against spreading misleading statements and adopting misguided approaches, urging mischief makers to refrain from such behaviour.
