UNFPA CRSO Award: Abia emerges best

Abia State Planning Commission, have emerged the best Performing Implementing Partner for the 2018, CRSO Programmes, under the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The award was presented to the Commission recently in Calabar, Cross River State during the UNFPA programme.

Speaking while presenting the award to the Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission, Dr (Mrs)Nnenna Chikezie, the Head of Abia Youth Employment and Social Support Operations, YESSO/ PWFPIU, Prince Friday Nwalozie said that the award spoke of volumes of the state participation and collaboration with UNFPA which has fast tracked the development of the state in terms of population figures.

Prince Nwalozie who has earlier received the award on behalf of the commission at the Calabar meeting of the United Nations agency said that UNFPA activities is centred on population figures and proper keeping of the statistical year book.

He disclosed of the approval of the Calabar conference of the selection of Abia among states qualified to start payment of his counterpart funding for the UNFPA programmes in the state.

Also speaking, the Director of Genda, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Chinyere Nwogugu, also said that the agency are involved in promoting genda awareness responsibility and control, disclosing that there is a bill before the State House of Assembly, that would give legal instrument to their activities.

Mrs Nwogugu, further stated that the sustainable natural development would be achieved by ensuring adequate population planning.

In her response, the Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission, Dr. Mrs Nnenna Chikezie, appreciated the agency for their award stating that it has remain the best award the commission has so far received.

Dr Mrs Chikezie, assured that Abia State government would continue to sustain the activities of the commission in each role to positively touch the lives of the people.
