Umuahia timber market fire incident: Ikpeazu commiserates with traders.

Following the fire incident that engulfed the popular Umuahia Industrial Market Ndume on New year’s day, which ravaged parts of the Timber section of the market,Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has sympathized with those who lost their property at the market.

Governor Ikpeazu who described the incident as very unfortunate assured them that the Government stands with them at this difficult moment.

The Governor who had earlier sent the Honorable Commissioner for Trade and Investment to visit the market for an on the spot assessment of the situation, to see possible ways through which the State Government can amongst other measures, work to ensure that incidences such as this do not reoccur ,assured the Business Community in the State of the avowed commitment of his administration to continue to support the growth of businesses across the state as a deliberate economic development strategy.

According to the governor,in a press release made available to newsmen,part of this strategy is to ensure that markets and other business areas are made conducive for businesses to thrive.

When National Ambassador reporter visited the scene of the fire incident,it was discovered that about fifty three shops, forty eight machines and other property worth millions of naira, were lost to fire while it took the frantic effort of the men of the fire service and sympathizers to bring the raging inferno under control.

As at the time of filling this report, the cause of the fire was not known.
