UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Chelsea, Villarreal Cruise Into Last Eight

Defending champions, Chelsea and Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal completed the eight teams for the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League with victories over Lille and Juventus respectively.

Chelsea entered the match with a 2-0 advantage, but it was the home side who struck first. Burak Yilmaz scored the penalty that resulted from Jurginho’s handling of the ball in the box.

Christian Pulisic restored parity just before half time. Chelsea captain, Caesar Azpilcueta put the game beyond Lille when he scored in the 71st minutes. Chelsea thus qualified on a 4-1 aggregate.

Villarreal qualified for the last eight with a resounding 0-3 victory over Juventus in Turin. The Spaniards did not have any shot on target until Gerard Moreno converted a 78th minute penalty after Daniele Rugani fouled Francis Coquelin.

Rau Torres and Arnaud Danjuma scored in the last five minutes of the game to complete the routing. Villarreal qualified on a 4-1 aggregate.

The draws for the quarter final will hold this Friday by 12 noon Nigerian time. The teams for the draws are Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
