UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Benzema Destroy PSG

Lionel Messi’s Paris St Germain fail to go beyond the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League as Karim Benzema scored a second half hat-trick to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over their French opponents and a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Lionel Messi, who has not won the Champions League for the past six seasons and his teammates came into the game with a lone goal advantage and had a perfect start when Kyllian Mbappe put them ahead in the 39th minute.

In a space of 17 minutes in the second half, French international Karim Benzema scored three goals to turn the game on its head and send the 13 time champions into the quarter final of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

At the age of 34 years and 80 days, Benzema became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. He has also taken his Real Madrid goals to 309 making him the third all-time top striker for the Spanish side.

For Paris St Germain, it was another disappointing campaign not even Lionel Messi could rescue them.

In the other match, Manchester City qualified for the quarter final on a 5-0 aggregate score despite the second leg against Sporting Lisbon ending goalless.
