Real Madrid are out of this season’s UEFA Champions League after a decimal performance that saw them succumb to a 1-4 defeat to visiting Ajax Amsterdam. This is the first time the Dutch side is progressing in a knockout tie for 22 years.
Real Madrid came into the game leading 2-1 from the first leg. However, goals from Hakim Ziyech and David Neres in the first half turned the table in favor of the visitors.
Dusan Tadic, who assisted the two first half goals scored the third on the 62nd minute before Asensio pulled one back for the lethargic hosts.
Lasse Schone made it four for Ajax and send them into the quarter final with a 5-3 aggregate score. Real Madrid, who have won the title in the past three season will now concentrate on the La Liga.
Similarly, Tottenham Hotspur qualified for the quarter final on 4-0 aggregate as Harry Kane scored the only goal with which the English side eliminated Borussia Dortmund. You will recall that Pochettino’s men had earlier defeated the Germans 3-0 in the first leg.
This is Harry Kane’s 24th European goal for Spurs, which makes him the club’s leading scorer in Europe followed by Jermain Defoe.
