Ude Oko Chukwu calls for zero road accident this Yuletide Season

Government and commercial drivers in Abia state in particular and the country as a whole have been tasked to ensure that this year’s Christmas and New Year’s celebration are devoid of roads accidents by avoiding reckless driving while on wheels.

The state deputy governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu made the call during a courtesy call by Executive members of Special Marshals of Abia State Road Safety Commission, R.S 9.3 at the Government House Umuahia, regretted that greater percentage of carnage on our roads accidents are as a result of over speeding, disobedience to road traffic rules and bad network

He further disclosed that Dr Okezie Ikpeazu’s led govt has declared a state of emergency on the Uzuakoli, Ohafia/Arochukwu fed.road and Ururuka road as well as zero potholes on all the roads in Aba and Umuahia to ensue that Abians celebrate this season in safety and comfort.

The Deputy Governor decried the lack of caution exhibited by some road users and the need to maintain high level of decorum on the road described their visit as very timely as they will help sensitize the populace on safe ways of driving during this period that is replete with high rate of accidents as a result of reckless driving.

He maintained that as the chairman of the soon to be constituted Advisory Council on Road Safety, he will in addition to championing the vanguard for safety on the road, ensure that they will instill on drivers posted to Govt House and various MDAS not to abuse govt plate numbers assigned to them, obtain driving license, and refrain from recklessness and disobedience to traffic rules.

Sir Oko Chukwu used the forum to commend the Special Corps Marshals for the commitment and dedication of their time and resources in trying to bring sanity and reduce accidents on the roads and implored them not to relent.

Earlier in his speech, the State Chairman FRSC Special Marshal, RS9.3 Chief Kalu Agwu Kalu said they are a volunteer arm of the Federal Road Safety Corps to compliment their efforts in checkmating accidents on the roads and called on govt to caution govt drivers who abuse govt plate numbers attached to their vehicles by disobeying traffic rules and refusing to obtain their driving license among others.

Chief Kalu who congratulated the Governor and his Deputy on their meritorious victories at the polls and Election Tribunal commended them on their achievements in infrastructural development and road construction across the state and promised to work in synergy with the state Govt to ensure safety of lives of Abians.
