AC Milan of Italy crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Feyenoord in the second leg of their knockout play-off at the San Siro in Milan.
The Italians came into the game with a lone goal deficit from the first leg; however, they cleared their deficit just after 36 seconds when Feyenoord’s former player, Santiago Gimenez netted the fastest goal in this season’s Champions League.
Things started falling apart six minutes into the second half when Theo Hernandez was sent off for two yellow cards. 12 minutes later, Substitute Julian Carranza netted the equalizer to give the visitors a 2-1 aggregate victory.
The Dutch side, who will be playing in the round of 16 for the first time since 1974, might still return to the San Siro as they can be drawn against AC Milan’s city rivals, Inter Milan or Arsenal in the round of 16 draws which will take place on Friday.
No matter who Feyenoord will face in the round of 16, they will be missing the services of their defender Givairo Read who received a red card after the final whistle.
