UCCIMA calls on government to support SMEs withstand Covid 19 effect

 

A call has gone out to the Abia state government under the watch of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to carve out measures to assist businesses that are already affected by the Covid 19 lockdown so they can thrive.

The President of Umuahia Chambers of Commerce,Industry,Mines and Agriculture (UCCIMA), Hon Chidi Nkem- Aruoma,who made the call in Umuahia, said the
effect of the novel pandemic currently ravaging the world would no doubt affect greatly businesses in Abia, especially Umuahia,that are trying to pick up and join the SME world.

Nkem-Aruoma pointed out that most SME operators in Abia need government intervention to bounce back to business having gone through a down turn in the period of covid 19 lockdown.

According to him,only few businesses that have gained economical strength can swindle the effect of the lockdown, while others that are still finding their feet might suffer extinction,if no support is given by the government.

The UCCIMA boss hinted that Abia has always being number one in SME activities and advised we do not lose this to covid 19, and urged the government to sustain the tempo by helping SMEs to withstand Covid 19 effects.

” After this pandemic, businesses will suffer a nosedive but with God and resilience,we will scale through”.

While urging its members to always obey the guidelines outlined against the spread of coronavirus,prayed God to always make Abia free from the pandemic and thanked the governor for the measures taken so far to keep abia safe. He added that More efforts should be put in place to check the movement of people into the state through our boarders.
