A business tycoon and philanthropist from Ngodo Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Etomchukwu Ubah, popularly known as Toscana, has offset hospital bills of patients at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, as a way of celebrating his birthday.
Rather than hosting a lavish party, Chief Ubah chose to identify with patients weighed down by illness and poverty. He spent over ₦10 million to clear outstanding medical bills, ensuring that many who had been unable to leave the hospital were discharged.

Tears of joy and heartfelt prayers flowed as relieved families walked out of the hospital corridors, describing Toscana’s gesture as a miracle at a time of despair.
The Chief Medical Director of FMC, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, who witnessed the discharges, commended the philanthropist for what he called “a rare act in a very long time.” He also urged other well-meaning Abians to emulate such generosity.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Ubah explained that his decision was rooted in gratitude to God for his life and success.

“God has been faithful to me, and this birthday is not about me—it’s about touching lives. What I have started here will also be extended to hospitals in Isuochi, my hometown, and in Enugu. Charity, like greatness, begins at home,” he stated.
Chief Ubah, who holds the traditional title Akuchinyere Mba 1 of Ngodo Ukwu Kingdom, has long been recognized for his philanthropy. His latest gesture has further strengthened his image as a man whose wealth is matched by compassion and a commitment to community service.
