U-23 AFCON: Nigeria Defeat Zambia

After losing their opening match to Ivory Coast by a lone goal, Dream Team VII bounced back to winning ways with a resounding 3-1 victory over Zambia.

Zambia took the lead on the 12th minute through Patson Daka.

Four minutes later, Orji Okonkwo restored parity.

Midway into the second half, Kelechi Nwakali gave Nigeria the lead and Taiwo Awoniyi put the icing on the cake with an extra time goal to give the defending champions a comprehensive 1-3 victory.

In the group’s early match, South Africa piped Ivory Coast 1-0.

South Africa are leading with four points followed by Nigeria and Ivory Coast with three points each while Zambia is last with a single point.

On Friday, Nigeria will take on South Africa while Ivory Coast lurk horns with Zambia.
