The opening match of the on-going U-20 Women’s World Cup saw Mexico defeat Brazil 3-2. It was the clash of champions as Mexico are the CONCACAF champions while Brazil are the South American champions.
Mexico took the lead on the 4th minute through Katty Martinez. But the lead lasted for only two minutes as Keroline Fernaz restored parity and put the Brazilians ahead on the 17th minute.
Two second half goals by Lizbeth Munoz gave the Mexicans the day.
In the other matches, England defeated defending champions, North Korea 3-1. The host France made mincemeat of Ghana 4-1. Debutants Netherlands defeated New Zealand 2-1.
