Turaki in Abia: Urges Nigerians to defend democracy

Former Minister and Presidential aspirant, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki has called on Nigerians to rise up and challenge certain vices that intend to truncate the nation’s nascent democracy.

Alhaji Turaki made the call when he visited the Abia state Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to solicit for their support for his presidential aspiration said that every Nigerian must support causes that would sustain our young democracy.

According to him: “We believe in the rule of law. We must do everything to ensure that this democracy must not be derailed .” Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties decried the massive killings, open discrimination , maladministration , and official corruption that had become the order of the day of the present government at the centre and added that these were unacceptable to the People and in safeguarding the nation’s democracy .

He urged Nigerians to be vigilant and desist from being too naive to think that the present administration would lose in the 2019 election because it had failed. “We have started a journey to reclaim our country and reclaim our future in our hands.

This is a journey that Nigerians would rise in one resounding voice to say ‘enough is enough’. “We must rise and be vigilant otherwise we will repeat a mistake that was made in 2015. We must be prepared to change what we don’t like. “If we want to have peace there must be justice .We must begin to talk to each other about certain issues”, he added.

He condemned the gestapo manner in which security agents have been disturbing key political officers from performing their national responsibility and expressed the hope that the President would take a very serious step in addressing the issue to ensure fairness.

On the issue of restructuring, Turaki said that it was a multifaceted problem which should be addressed from different angles such as regionalism, resource control as well as state police.

Responding, Chief Johnson Onuigbo, the state Chairman of PDP thanked the Presidential aspirant for identifying with the people of Abia.

Onuigbo said that the upcoming election would be an opportunity for Nigerians to provide a lasting solution to the challenges experienced in the nation.
