Traditional rulers, Chiefs intervene over church land dispute

As part of the space building process and a move to ensure peace, the Oku clan council of traditional rulers and chiefs has promised to donate a parcel of land to break away members of Qua’Ibo church in the area to build their own United Evangelical church.

The offer was announced by the head of clan council of chiefs Oku local government area of Akwa Ibom state, Etteobong Eniofong Okpan while reacting to the disagreement of some members of Qua’Ibo church Oku, 114 Ikot Ekpene road in Uyo over the name of the church.
Etteobong Okpan who read the  communicate issued by the Royal fathers at the end of the meeting said that the landlords action was to prevent bloodshed and ensure lasting peace in the community, the Royal fathers however expressed displeasure over the action of some members of the church who want to change the name of the church and possibly take over it’s administration, describing it as embarrassment to the government and people of the state.
He said as the landlords of the church, they will not fold their hands and watch the disagreement degenerate to desecration of holy place of worship and anarchy.
The resolution was signed by 13 out of the 14 clan council. The Akwa Ibom state police command had earlier blocks entrance to  the church premises to avoid break down of law and order following the attempt by two pastors from the opposing camps to conduct service in the same church at the same time.
