TOKYO 2020: Nigeria Fail To Qualify For Football Event

Football fans across Nigeria should forget about the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as Nigeria will not be playing in both the male and female categories.

The Nigerian U-23 side fail to progress to the semi-finals of he U-23 AFCON, and in extension fail to qualify for next year’s Games after a goalless draw with Souh Africa.

After losing their first match to Cote d’Ivoire by a lone goal and defeating Zambia in their second, the Nigerian side needed to win their last match to qualify. But, they failed to do that. Thereby, allowing South Africa to qualify behind Ivory Coast with five points.

You will recall that the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the Olympic Games after they were eliminated by their Ivorian counterparts.

This is the second time coach Imama Amapakabo has failed in a matter of weeks to qualify for a major tournament.

His home based Super Eagles failed to qualify for 2020 Africa Nations Championship, losing 3-4 on aggregate to the Hawks of Togo.
