Tinubu Appoints New Boards for NCC, USPF

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments to the boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), two key agencies under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Idris Olorunnimbe has been named Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Waida retains his position as Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, a role confirmed by the Senate in November 2023 following his nomination in October 2023.

Olorunnimbe, a former member of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, chaired its Stakeholder and Governance Committee, where he championed youth employment and entrepreneurship initiatives.

The NCC board also includes Abraham Oshidami (Executive Commissioner, Technical Services) and Rimini Makama (Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management), alongside Hajia Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd), Senator Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, and Princess Oforitsenere Emiko. The board is supported by a Secretary.

In a related move, Tinubu also reconstituted the board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), with Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, as Chairman, and Olorunnimbe as Vice Chairman.

Other USPF board members include Oshidami and Makama, along with Aliyu Edogi Aliyu (Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy), Joseph B. Faluyi (Federal Ministry of Finance), Auwal Mohammed (Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning), Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, and Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri. The board’s Secretary will also serve as a member.

The USPF, established to expand access to information and communication technologies in rural, unserved, and underserved areas, is tasked with bridging Nigeria’s digital divide. With the new board in place, the Fund is expected to accelerate progress toward achieving nationwide ICT inclusion.
