Three Dead in Bayelsa Cult Clash, One Hospitalized

A total of ten cult members, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the Igbogene community in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, around 8 pm and killed three persons in a cult clash recently.

A source who pleaded anonymity told newsmen that the clash was between rival cult groups, the Greenlanders and Bobos. The first person shot dead was the son of a former head of the community vigilante group known as Money Sweet. He was shot close to his house. The second person, who was not a cultist, was killed after refusing to disclose the whereabouts of his elder brother.

It was disclosed that trouble started after a disagreement broke out between the notorious Bobos and Greenlanders over some unsuccessful deals. The attack claimed the lives of Donaldson Mison, Greenboy Dudella, and Addy Mulan.

The police reported that three persons were killed, while the community stated that two died in the attack and the third victim is receiving treatment in the hospital.

The Youth President of the Igbogene Community, Ezekiel Igbenivie, who confirmed the development, said those involved have absconded. He added that one of the victims, who is still alive, is receiving treatment.

“The survivor, who is alleged to be a member of the Greenlander group, was mistakenly shot but was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

The arrival of police teams from the Doo Akpo, the Anti-Kidnapping, and the Rapid Response Team calmed the situation, but the attack left the community in silence and a shadow of its former self.

Following the incident, youths of the community protested the killings, blaming the leadership of the community for alleged negligence and indiscipline, which they say have led to frequent crises.

The Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Musa Mohammed, who also confirmed the incident, said those killed include Donaldson Mison (28), Addy Mulan (27), and Greenboy Dudella (29), leaving the residents in fear.
