Teens Time Exchange Eplore Vicar Hope Foundation’s Facilities

A group of teenagers under the aegis of Teens Time Exchange in partnership with the African Independent Television (AIT) has  embark on facility tour of the Vicar Hope Foundation to learn about the foundation and its programmes.

Receiving the teens at the Vicar Hope centre, Ogurube Layout, Ihie Ndume in Umuahia recently the wife of Abia Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, and the founder Vicar Hope Foundation said that it is a laudable idea that the teens came to learn and to have first hand experience on what the foundation does.

The Governor’s wife who was represented by the Vice President of the foundation, Dr. Edith Nwosu, stated that the teens passion to learn and know about their genotype will help them to make useful decisions about themselves as they grow.

According to her, “the teenagers would be able to share their experiences with their peers and be good example to others”.

However, Dr. Edith explains that the foundation treat those already affected with sickle cell disease and plays advocacy role to end it.

“The foundation also have acquired the latest equipment for early detection of breast cancer, has built houses for indigent women of Abia, engaged women and the youths in skills acquisition and empower them and lots more the foundation does to ameliorate the sufferings of mankind in the society “.

 

Guiding the teens round the facilities in the foundation, the Head of Vicar Hope Sickle Cell Department, Mrs. Patricia Nwankwo, said that while it is pertinent for all to know their genotype, that parents have a role to play in this decision before their wards chooses a life partner.

She maintains that if we can nip it in the bud at this stage it would help us to end the cycle and that is what the foundation is looking forward to achieve.

 

Earlier, the leader of the teens, Ms. Chichi Umeseaka, said that the idea for the teenagers to come here is to exchange ideas, values and culture.

“I am most grateful to Abia State government for providing the enabling environment for us to be here and to explore different perspectives of life, the teens were drawn from all parts of the country and the experiences they get here today would go a long way to help them make right decisions especially when it comes to relationships”.

However, the teens tested to know their genotype, blood sugar free of charge courtesy of the wife of Abia State Governor Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu.
