Tanker Explosion in Delta Claims Lives, Destroys Banks and Other Structures

A fuel tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, has claimed at least two lives, with several properties, including banks and vehicles, destroyed.

 

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon along the busy Old Lagos-Asaba Road near First Bank and Access Bank, leaving a trail of destruction.Tanker Explosion, Delta State

 

Eyewitnesses reported that the petrol tanker caught fire after it fell while attempting a turn near First Bank, resulting in a massive explosion that engulfed nearby structures.

A local source disclosed, “Many people died, but I don’t know the exact number. Initially, five persons were confirmed dead, while several others were injured. Houses, including two banks, and vehicles were burnt. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see firefighters at the scene, which escalated the fire further. Some persons were rushed to the hospital.”

However, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that only two deaths were recorded. He stated, “Two deaths, First Bank, Access Bank, two other houses, and two vehicles were affected.”

The explosion caused severe damage to structures within the area, including First Bank, Access Bank, and nearby buildings, while vehicles parked around the scene were also destroyed.
