Sweden Deploys Military Ship to Aid Finland in Baltic Sea Cable Probe

Sweden has dispatched a submarine rescue ship to support Finland’s investigation into the suspected sabotage of the EstLink 2 underwater power cable in the Baltic Sea.

Finnish authorities allege that the Russian oil tanker Eagle S, flagged under the Cook Islands, damaged the cable by dragging its anchor. A scraping mark extending several kilometers along the seabed was discovered near the cable, raising suspicions of intentional interference.

The Eagle S, believed to belong to Russia’s “shadow fleet” used to circumvent oil embargoes, has been detained by Finnish authorities for further investigation.
