The State Government
has reiterated its unwavering commitment to strengthening the civil service and improving the welfare of its workforce.
The State Head of service, Mr Benson Ojeikere stated this when he received in audience top management staff of the Federal Mortgage Bank,led by Mrs Chinenye Anosike, emphasized that civil servants remains the engine room of governance which plays a critical role in the success of other sectors.
The HOS noted that the
administration of Governor Alex Otti has prioritized the welfare of civil servants, with several projects already underway to enhance their well-being.
Among the initiatives, Mr. Ojeikere who described the housing project by FMBN as a strategic complement to the government’s efforts, urged the bank to revive suspended housing projects, as well as to review the affordability, and eligibility conditions for civil servants accessing their facilities.
Earlier in her speech, the Executive Director
Mrs. Anosike, , appealed to the State Government to assist in recovering outstanding payments for loans granted to civil servants between 2019 and May 2025. She disclosed that some deductions made by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies had not been remitted, which according to her is affecting the bank’s sustainability.
The FMBN Executive Director commended Governor Otti for his achievements and announced the official handover of keys to the remaining 18 houses in the 100-unit Ubani Housing Estate project, completed by FMBN.
Speaking also, a former Labour Union Leader, Mr Chris Okoro who
called on the government and FMBN to address the plight of civil servants whose past deductions for housing projects have not materialized, leaving many still living in rented apartments despite years of service.
However,
the meeting underscored the shared commitment of the State Government and FMBN to improving the welfare of civil servants through collaborative projects and reforms.
