State of emergency on waste management: Ikpeazu hands over refuse compactors to ASEPA

Abia state Governor,Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has handed over refuse compactors to the State Waste management Intervention Team to enable them tackle waste disposal in parts of the state.

This is following the state of emergency declared in the environmental sanitation sector.

Speaking at the Abia Lodge Aba,venue of the handover ceremony,Governor Ikpeazu said refuse compactors trucks were rolled out to solve the sanitation problem of Aba,Umuahia and its environs adding that the state government is working to phase out secondary dump sites.

While noting that the state government will commence on House to House collection of refuse in Aba and Umuahia,the governor warned that henceforth government will deal decisively with any landlord whose frontage and drainage is bad
and advised residents to keep their environment clean.

According to him,the state government will create more ASEPA zones within the state in addition to employing serious minded and qualified individuals to man the various offices,a move which he said will employ over 100 Abians.
