Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has stressed the need for the citizenry to shun negative vices in order to minimise soldiers engagement in tackling security challenges.

Speaking during the Parade/ Laying of wreaths as part of the activities marking this year Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at the Abia State Cenotaph, Ogurube Layout Umuahia, Dr. Ikpeazu said that it is regrettable, the increase involvement of Nigerians in negative vices which the soldiers are battling to curtail.

Dr Ikpeazu therefore made case for Nigerians to live above board and for the soldiers to be saddled with only the responsibility of fighting terrorism, insurgence and protection against external aggression

The governor represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu commended the zeal in the armed forces in battling insurgency and terrorism in the country and urged Nigerians to continue to back them up with support and prayers.

Dr. Ikpeazu applauded the Nigeria Army for their efforts, contributions and sacrifices in ensuring the protection of the country territories.

He thanked them for their contribution in restoring peace in Abia during the era of kidnapping and violent crimes promised them that their efforts would not be in vain.

Highpoint of the event was laying of wreath, a two minutes silence for
the fallen heroes, parade by members of the armed forces and the Nigeria Legion and 21 gun shots to the fallen heroes.
