Senate President, Akpabio Charges Colleagues On Nation Building

The Senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has called on his colleagues to recommit transformative task of nation-building.

Akpabio, who the disclosed this recently, during the budget report speech, entitled; “Rising to the Greatness of Our Calling”.

In his words: “This moment is significant. “History is calling on us to make a difference—to write a new narrative for our nation, one of progress, justice, and boundless possibilities.”

The Senate President described the 2025 budget as more than just a financial document, emphasizing its role as a “blueprint of the aspirations and hopes of millions of Nigerians.”

He urged lawmakers to ensure that the budget serves as a catalyst for development, equity, and justice, aligning with the collective dreams of the Nigerian people.

Akpabio also highlighted electoral reform as a critical agenda for the legislative year, noting its importance as the nation prepares for the next electoral cycle.

“Reforming Nigeria’s electoral system is both a legislative duty and a moral imperative. “It is our chance to gift the Nigerian people a system that is transparent, credible, and reflective of their will.”

He, however, stressed the need to restore trust in Nigeria’s democratic processes, describing it as fundamental to achieving lasting progress.

Akpabio further enjoined lawmakers to seek divine guidance in their deliberations, emphasizing the significance of their work beyond legislative duties.

“Our work here is not just about legislation; it is about shaping the future of a nation and leaving a legacy for generations to come,” he stated.

As lawmakers embark on budget defence sessions, Akpabio reiterated the importance of aligning the federal government’s financial priorities with Nigeria’s development goals.
