The Senate on Wednesday confirmed 64 nominees for career and non-career ambassadorial appointments following the adoption of a report by its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The confirmation came after the committee’s chairman, Senator Sani Bello, presented the outcome of the screening exercise to the chamber. Lawmakers subsequently considered and unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, paving the way for the nominees to assume diplomatic postings.
During deliberations, Senator Sahabi Yau raised concerns over the absence of any nominee from Zamfara State in the list presented to the Senate. He urged the chamber to formally draw the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to what he described as a notable omission.
Responding to the concern, the Senate President acknowledged the observation, explaining that the list submitted for confirmation was not exhaustive. He assured senators that the matter would be communicated to the President.
The Senate President further disclosed that additional ambassadorial nominations are expected, adding that Zamfara State would not be excluded from subsequent appointments.
With the confirmation concluded, the Senate reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness and inclusiveness in federal appointments, particularly in sensitive diplomatic representations of the country abroad.
