Sen. Sampson Commissions Projects, Flags Off Medical Facilities in Akwa Ibom

Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Ekong Sampson, has commissioned key community projects and flagged off the construction of medical facilities in two hospitals across the district.

The commissioned projects include a 500KVA transformer at Okon, Eket, and a CBT/ICT building at St. Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku, Eket. He also performed the groundbreaking for a new medical ward at Immanuel Hospital, Eket, and the General Hospital, Ikot Abasi.

Speaking at the events, Senator Sampson, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, said the interventions were in fulfilment of his campaign promises and a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

While handing over the ICT building, the lawmaker noted that the project was in line with the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) directive to transition to computer-based testing. He said the initiative would prepare students for the digital era of examinations.

On the flagged-off health projects, he assured that they would be completed before the end of the year, with similar facilities to be replicated at the General Hospital, Iquita, Oron. He added that accommodation for medical officers would also be provided.

Senator Sampson further disclosed progress on the bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), which has passed all three readings in the National Assembly.

The senator also revealed ongoing consultations with federal stakeholders for the revival of the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), describing it as a priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He called on constituents to continue supporting Governor Umo Eno, President Tinubu, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stressing that the projects were designed to complement state efforts, especially in the health sector.

Responding, Dr. Otobong Udoh of Immanuel Hospital and Dr. King Udoh of General Hospital, Ikot Abasi, commended the senator for the timely intervention. They pledged support for the projects’ completion, noting that the facilities would address critical needs, particularly accommodation for medical officers on call.
