Security Situation, Ukwa East Mayor Visits Akirika obu

The Mayor of Ukwa East local government Dame Ngozi Nwagbara have visited Akirika Obu Communuty in Ukwa East LGA to meet with the Army hierarchy in the barracks of Akirika Obu, along with the leadership of the community.

The visit was necessary to review the security situation of the community, and also to carry out on the spot assessment of the condition of the community in terms of development.

Speaking during the visit,the Mayor expressed her appreciation to Nigeria Army for living up to the expectations of Abia State government regarding the security of Akirika Obu community.

Long before now, Akirika Obu was faced with constant unending boundary disputes with their Anang neighbors of Akwa Ibom State, They are constantly attacked, sometimes their houses burnt and people killed, while also their lands forcefully acquired. This situation has subjected the people of Akirika Obu community to living in fear.

speaking during the visit the commander of the barrack reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Army in sustaining the peace currently enjoyed by the people of Akirika Obu.

Responding to the Army Commander, the council Chairman also communicated the commitment of the state government ably led by Dr Alex Otti in providing adequate support to the Nigeria Army for continued peace in the region.

The Mayor again paid a visit to the state primary school in the community where she met with the students and teachers.The visit provided the opportunity for the chairman to be briefed of some challenges faced by the school which the chairman promised to look into and also proffer lasting solution.

The head teacher addressing the Council Chairman and entourage noted the need for adequate security in the school considering the security situation of the community amongst other demands.

Addressing the school teachers and indigenes of the community who were present, the Mayor advised the community to provide security in the school that council will take care of the monthly salary of the personnel.

The Chairman of the council again addressed the people of Akirika Obu Community, charged them to continue cooperating with the Nigeria Army for sustainable peace in the community. She also advised them to always reach out to the council in case there is a challenge.

In a closing remark, the high Chief of the community, Mr Friday Nnah thanked the Chairman for visiting the community as it shows strong commitment of the council towards addressing the security challenges of the community. He also used the opportunity and pleaded with the council chairman to extend the ongoing road grading project to the community, as the community last witnessed grading many years ago.
