Security agencies urged to move against illicit drug dealers in Abia

Security agencies in Umuahia, Abia state have been directed to ensure that peddlers of illicit hard drugs and other alcoholic drinks do not regroup within the Isigate axis to continue their trade.

The Deputy Transition Committee Chairman,Umuahia North Local government, Hon Eze Okwulehie gave the directive after inspecting the level of compliance on traders and mini park operators to move out of the roads while plying their trades.

Hon Okwulehie said that though the easiest language people understood was force, assured that maximum action would not be taken to stop street trading and loading of passengers in the Isigate axis until they are relocated to a permanent site in the Ubani modern market.

He disclosed of a 24 hours patrolling by security agencies to stop the traders and commercial vehicle operators from blocking the roads to ply their trades in the evening and weekends.

The deputy transition committee Chairman said that the current move was not aimed at depriving them their means of livelihood but ensuring free flow of traffic and enhance the aesthetic value of the capital city.
