Crime fighting in Abia State is expected to take a robust technological dimension as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has launched the state’s Crime Prevention And Management System (CPAMS) to aid security agencies in crime record keeping and intelligence processing.
The state Crime Prevention And Management Control, conceptualized by Governor Ikpeazu is a contemporary crime control and Prevention model, which seeks to improve police service delivery in Abia State, using modern digital technology and police science approach in tackling issues of criminality in the state.
Inaugurating the CPAMS at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia,Governor Ikpeazu said his administration is commitmented to make Abia one of the safest in Nigeria.
The Governor said that his desire to make Abia the safest state in Nigeria is born out of his vision to brinh the right ambience for the promotion of Small And Medium Enterprises and encouragement other businesses.
He adedd that the digital transferable information offered by the platform will provide solution to effective policing in Abia and Nigeria at large.
According to Governor Ikpeazu, proactive policing requires that the officer needs to be ahead of the criminals through the deployment of science and technology.
He noted that CPAMS will make it easier for the police to extract information from suspects without using force as well as enable Community participation.
The Governor called on all citizens to be part of effective policing for improved Security.
Governor Ikpeazu who used the opportunity to inaugurate a 9-man committee headed by the Commissioner of police Janet Agbede to plan the proposed visit of the Inspector General of Police Muhammed Abubakar to the state, congratulated the trainees of CPAMS, urging them to collaborate with the Nigerian police and other security agencies in the state.
In his remarks the commissioner for Homeland security Prince Dan Okoli appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for making the security of the state a topmost priority .
He said that the ministry is working in line with the state government’s agenda of bringing crime level in the state to zero and thanked the Governor for approving the training of four hundred and eighty six Abia Youths into the newly created ministry of Homeland security.
The state Commissioner of Police Mrs Janet Agbede, in her remarks said that the modern security system has become necessary in view of the dynamism in criminality across the society, and described it as Noble and being in line with the initiative of the Inspector General of Police at the federal level aimed at advancing the frontiers of Community policing across the country.
She assured that with the new security system, crime in the state will soon be a thing of the past as Abia has through this innovative step of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu proven to be the most security conscious across the federation.
The Coordinator of CPAMS,Mr Endi Ezengwa said that the programme is geared towards launching Abia to the 21st century system of crime detection and prevention and described it as the first of its kind in Nigeria.
Highlight was the demonstration of the operations of CPAMS by the police Trainees and Abia State Homeland security.
