Saturday poll: APC chief calls for immediate replacement of INEC ad-hoc staff in Abia

Barely few days to the Presidential and National House of Assembly Elections, the Abia State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Donatus Nwankpa has called for the immediate replacement of the INEC ad-hoc staff in the state, if the elections would be free, fair and credible.

Hon Nwankpa who made this disclosure while fielding questions from journalists during a stakeholders meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Umuahia, said the INEC should as a matter of urgency replace the ad-hoc staff in Abia with an independent and unbiased staff who cannot be lured by the PDP as already the ones on ground are be ruled by the PDP.

He said most of the ad-hoc staff are civil servants in the state who would rule in favour of the government they serve under, alleging that the collation officers who are staff of the University of Agriculture, Umudike, have already been bought by the ruling party, PDP.

“We are nolonger confident that INEC in Abia can conduct a credible election, the ad-hoc staff are playing in favour of the PDP”, he said.

” We are opposed to the appointment of INEC ad-hoc staff in the state, let the ballot box separate the winner and the looser, let it decide for Nigeria for once”, the APC chief stressed.

While giving the condition at which the APC would reinstall confidence in the INEC, Hon Nwankpa said the bodies involved in the electoral process as well as the security agencies should be unbiased.

He, however, charged the commission to allow Abians choose who would govern them for once so that there will be accountability, transparency and good governance in the state.
