Run-off in Mali as Keita fails to win outright

Mali’s presidential election will go into a run-off vote after President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita failed to get enough votes to win a second term in office outright, the Ministry of Territorial Administration said in a statement on Thursday.

Keita won 41 percent of the vote while rival Soumaila Cisse won 17.8 percent, it said.

They will meet in a runoff vote later this month.

The election was held on Sunday amidst fears of Jihadist attacks.
