Rt. Hon. Sir Dr. Enyiada Cookey-Gam, Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, celebrated the bravery of Nigeria’s armed forces at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Opobo Town. He praised their relentless efforts against non-state actors, which have contributed to peace in Rivers State and beyond.
Dr. Cookey-Gam lauded the soldiers’ resilience, noting that they risk everything to protect Nigerians, often returning with shattered hopes, life-altering injuries, or not returning at all. He also extended his respect to veterans and the Nigerian Legion for their unwavering support.
The Opobo/Nkoro boss commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to addressing economic and security challenges in the state. He pledged his administration’s full support to the armed forces in ensuring peace and safety in the LGA and the nation.
During the event, Dr. Cookey-Gam inspected the guard of honour and laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Opobo/Nkoro Chapter, Rtd. Captain Iyowuna Andrew Jaja, urged Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes and support their families.
The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Hon. Mrs. Ukamaka Diri, Rt. Hon. Senibo Samuel Nengia, and Alabo Godwin Bupo, representing HRM King Dandeson Douglas Jaja.
The event highlighted the importance of honouring and supporting those who have served and sacrificed for Nigeria’s peace and unity.
