Rivers Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM has pledged to continue praying for the peace and development of the State, assuring that no form of negative attack on the State will deter them from praying as God will always secure the State.
The women further called on all well-meaning people to protect the women from all forms of violence whether domestic, public or in the work place, but continue to accord them the respect that they deserved as part of this year’s International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls which is a 16-day event.
They said in this age of equal opportunities and human rights for all people it will be antithetical to subject women to all forms of harassment, intimidation and violence that tend to debase and dehumanize them.
The Rivers Women Unite for SIM decried the unfruitful determination of detractors of the State to continue to cause one form of tension or the other in the State which will continue to stunt growth and development and urged the detractors to desist and allow the people’s governor, Sir (Dr) Siminalayi Fubara to govern the State without further hindrance.
Speaking on behalf of the women during their monthly praise and prayer session held in Port Harcourt, Bar. Tamunoibuemi Life-George emphasized that the group provides a vital platform for women to come together in faith, fostering unity and spiritual growth.
She further highlighted that their collective prayers focus on promoting peace, encouraging community development, and addressing pressing social issues within the state.
Earlier, some other women shared their thoughts on the significance of their monthly gatherings for prayer, noting that these sessions not only strengthen their faith and foster unity among members but also serve as an opportunity to intercede for the progress of the State
The women commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the implementation of the N85,000 minimum wage for Rivers civil servants which has brought joy to several women working for the State.
Women from the 23 LGAs were well represented at the event which also marked the end of year activities of the group.
