Rivers Women Reject Governance Distractions, Commit State to God

Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM have handed over the affairs of Rivers State to God, rejecting what they described as distractions capable of undermining effective governance in the state.

The women also condemned what they termed a “peace of the graveyard,” calling instead for genuine coexistence, unity, and collective commitment to peace as the foundation for sustainable development in Rivers State.

They made these declarations on Thursday, January 15, 2026, during their annual prayer gathering held at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, to usher in the new year. The gathering drew women from different parts of the state who converged to pray for peace, progress, and good governance.

Speaking at the event, the Convener of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, urged women to walk in faith, love, and unity, stressing that meaningful achievements are only possible where there is togetherness and shared purpose. She charged participants to remain steadfast in prayer and unwavering in their commitment to the peace and development of Rivers State.

According to her, while faith in divine intervention is essential, citizens must also actively work toward harmony and mutual understanding, noting that God remains firmly in control of the affairs of the state.

The prayer session featured extended periods of praise and thanksgiving, as the women expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness despite prevailing challenges. They acknowledged divine guidance over the years and offered prayers for continued protection, wisdom, and abundant grace upon Rivers State and the nation at large.

Special prayers were also offered for peace, prosperity, and good governance, as the women declared God’s divine order over the land, its leaders, and its people. They reaffirmed their belief in God’s supreme authority, expressing confidence that He continues to guide the state and perfect all that concerns it.

The group further reiterated its unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, committing his leadership and administration into God’s hands for divine wisdom, direction, and success.

The event ended on a joyful note as members born in January were celebrated with birthday songs and prayers for long life, good health, and divine favour.
