Rivers Residents Decry The Use Of Hard Drugs In Food

Many parents in Rivers State have expressed deeply worries over the rising trend of including hard drugs such as Marijuana in food and snacks.

They are more worried that a vast majority of people who are indulge in it are young people.

An investigation by our reporter reveals that noodles, cakes, chin chin and cookies prepared with Marijuana are sold to customers on demand.

A substance advocate who uses drama and music to send his message across, David Jones, said the increase in the use of drugs amongst youth is gradually eating into productivity. He also said that the government needs to act fast to curb the menace.

A resident doctor in Psychiatry, at university of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital,Choba, Dr Ayodeji Oluwaseun says adding hard drugs into food and snacks is more deadly.

Dr Ayodeji Oluwaseun in an interview with our reporter said people who eat food or snacks prepared with any substance tend to be more addicted than those who always smoke the substance.

Dr Ayodeji Oluwaseun revealed that the greater danger is that the social economic profile of Nigerians are already in trouble because those who are suppose to be useful in the productivity sector are gradually been destroyed by hard drugs.

The resident doctor Ayodeji Oluwaseun however, warns parents to do more by monitoring what their wards and children eat.
