Rivers Political Crisis Nears Resolution as Fubara, Wike, Others Meet President Tinubu

Hope for lasting peace in Rivers State appears to be on the horizon as key political figures in the state’s protracted crisis move closer to reconciliation, following high-level meetings held this week in Abuja.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, led a delegation of Rivers leaders to Aso Rock on Thursday night. The delegation, which included members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, National Assembly caucus members from the state, and prominent elders, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to brief him on progress made toward restoring political harmony in the state.

The two-day series of meetings, held between Wednesday and Thursday, marks a significant step in resolving the lingering political impasse that has disrupted governance in Rivers State for several months.

With the improved relations among the key political actors, there is growing optimism that President Tinubu may soon lift the emergency rule reportedly imposed on the state, paving the way for full democratic governance to resume.

Observers view the renewed dialogue as a major breakthrough in efforts to stabilize the state and foster collaboration among its political leadership.
