The police in Rivers State have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially during the Ember months.
In an interview with our reporter, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that there is no specific crime pattern in the state at present. However, she assured residents that the Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Mohammed, has ordered the deployment of tactical teams to key areas to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
“They should be security-conscious and aware of their surroundings. Residents should immediately report any suspicious movements to the police or call the control room hotline. Our officers and vehicles are strategically positioned in black spots across the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order,” Iringe-Koko emphasized.
Parents Discuss Strategies to Prevent Kidnapping
Amid rising insecurity, some parents in Rivers State have expressed concerns about the safety of their children and discussed ways to prevent incidents of kidnapping and other social vices.
This follows the harrowing experience of a father whose 12-year-old daughter was recently kidnapped near their home in the Elelenwo community.
Speaking on the matter, a concerned parent, Joy Iheayi, urged other parents to educate their children and wards on how to respond to strangers, warning that kidnappers often exploit personal information to lure their victims.
“Parents should teach their children not to engage with strangers on the road. Sometimes, kidnappers tell children that their mother is calling them at a junction to help carry a load,” she cautioned.
Mrs. Iheayi further advised children to be content with what they have and to be cautious of their friends, as even close acquaintances could betray them.
