Rivers LG Elections: Youths beat up former Gov, Reps Member

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikwerre local area of Rivers State were at the Port Harcourt divided over the rumoured ambition of the incumbent Council Chiarman, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike to seek reelection in the 2021 local government elections.

The division of the party in Ikwerre LGA, we learnt, gave birth to the attack on former Governor of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia and other chieftains of the party by some angry mob.

The former Governor had allegedly summoned a meeting of chieftains of the PDP in the LGA in his Port Harcourt residence to discuss issues concerning the 2021 local government council elections in the area.

It was gathered that Nwanosike’s second term bid was kicked against, as notable party chieftains and stakeholders hinted that the council boss having served as a Caretaker Chiarman and an elected chairman, a fresh candidate should be introduced.

While the meeting was ongoing, some angry youths invaded the venue, inflicting injury on the ex-governor, Member representing Ikwerre/Emohua federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Boniface Emerengwa and other party chieftains and dispersed everybody.

A source at the meeting told reporters that it took the intervention of the state Governor, Nyesom Wike and the police to restore peace to the area, while some of the youths were arrested.
