Rivers Govt. moves to clampdown unregistered abattoirs

The Rivers State Government says it will now commence clamp down on unregistered abattoirs as slaughter houses in Rivers State from the October 1, 2020.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture Dr Fred Kpakol said his ministry will also commence the inspection of Abattoirs and Slaughter slabs to ascertain that they meet the required standard.

” The Ministry of Agriculture wishes to State categorically that nobody should slaughter meat at any slab without veterinary meat inspection. We are talking about Sheep, Goat, Pigs. Every meat must be inspected”

” From the 1st of October, we are going to move from slaughter to slaughter, and clamp down on those slaughter that don’t meet up to the required service standards”

Dr Fred Kpakol further said that any slaughter that don’t do the needful as to sanitary conditions to make food available to people at hygienic State will be closed down.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture Dr Fred Kpakol also told our reporter that Rivers State Government is ready for concession of some State owned Agricultural farms.

“We are both on land and on sea. While we are looking at crops which will be done on the land, we are also looking at fishes right in the Ocean terminals. The Rivers State Government is talking about consession of some farms”

Dr Fred Kpakol further explained that some of the farms, will be for farms that will go for fishing, some for crops, and some for international investors. He said those who understand what to do will bring their money and partner with the State Government.

The Commissioner also said that food security is the target of the State Government, and the state is very proactive on how the government can partner together and on how foreign investors can be called to work with them.
