Rivers Crisis: Court Restrains Factional Speaker, Amaewhule, Deputy, From Obstructing Legislation

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an interim injunction restraining Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule (Former Speaker Rivers State House Of Assembly) and Hon. Dumle Maol (Former Deputy Speaker RSHA) from disturbing, obstructing or interfering with the legislative proceedings of the Rivers State House Of Assembly and/or the legislative duties and functions of Rt. Hon. Ehie Ogerenye Edison DSSRS as the Speaker Rivers State House Of Assembly in accordance with Section 90 – 104 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered), pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed in the suit.

The court also granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the Inspector General Of Police, Director, Department Of State Services and Commisioner Of Police, Rivers State from giving effect to any instruction issued by Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule and Hon. Dume Maol aimed at disturbing, obstructing or interfering with the legislative proceedings of the Rivers State House Of Assembly and/or the legislative duties of the Rt. Hon. Ehie Ogerenye Edison as Speaker of the Rivers State House Of Assembly in accordance with Section 90 – 104 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered), pending the hearing and final determination of the Motion on Notice filed in this suit.
