Amadi Ama Community in Port Harcourt City has decried the environmental crises they face due to shoreline erosion.
The Community Development Council chairman, Ogbele Olunwa in an interview with our reporter, expressed deep frustration over the fact that many houses along shoreline have collapsed.
He accused the Nigeria Liquefied National Gas of paying more attention to it’s project while ignoring the devastation it’s operation have allegedly inflicted on it’s host.
“We are pleading with the NLNG to come and help our community because we are their host. We can not be here and NLNG is trying to do an embarkment, forgetting the community that is hosting them. They should come to our aid to see that they protect our environment.
Another indigene of the Amadi Ama Community Mr. Williams Amadi who also complained about the development asked the NLNG management to take the immediate action on this issue. He warned that the alarming rate of which river is encroaching on residential areas is troubling.
“We the people of Amadi Ama is calling on NLNG to come and assist us in shore protection behind their office. The encroachment of the river is so high, and from the look of things, the houses there are in danger because without the shore protection, there will be no way the houses will be safe, and people will vacate the area. We therefore ask them to come and assist us to do that shore protection ” he further noted.
