Rivers Community Crisis: Fleeing Indigenes Return Home

After over a decade of unrest, occasioned by incessant cult activities, gang violence and communal clashes among the communities in Bua Boue Kingdom, Khana local government area of Rivers State, peace has finally returned to the area.

 

Within the period of unrest, we learnt that scores of persons have been reportedly killed, properties worth millions of naira destroyed and residents deserting the villages to take refuge in neighboring communities and other parts of the state.

 

Paramount Ruler of Bua Boue Kingdom, HRH, Mene Taalor Tornwe who confirmer the return of some fleeing indigenes to our reporter in Port Harcourt on Friday regretted the crisis which according to him claimed several lives with properties worth billions of naira destroyed.

Tornwe said, in a bid to end the years-long crisis, ensure fleeing indigenes return home and to chart a way forward as well as restoring lasting peace to the area, a peace and reconciliation committees were inaugurated.

 

He said members of the committees were charged

to be focused and committed to restoring the lost glory of the land.

 

The monarch commended the State and council governments, security agencies and stakeholders for their supportive roles in ensuring lasting peace returns to the kingdom.

“It will be a thing of joy to see my people return back to their homes and live a normal life again. The crisis affected both social and economic activities but I know this kingdom will be great again”.

Bua Boue kingdom was listed as one of the worst hit communities with cult clashes and gang violence in the four local government areas that made up Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State. By Henry Okere PHC.
