Rivers APC Crisis: Court declare Aguma new party Chairman

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has declared former member representing Port Harcourt Constituency 1 at the National Assembly, Hon. Igo Aguma as Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

Igo Aguma had approach the Court to challenge the legality of the caretaker committee set up by the national leadership of the party to manage the affairs of the party in the state pending the inauguration of substantive state executives.

Delivering his judgment on Tuesday Justice George Omeriji declared Igo Aguma new CTC Chairman of the party.

Justice Omereji affirmed that the national Secretariat of the party was wrong to form a caretaker Committee in the state.

The Court ruled that Igo Aguma and other statutory members should pilot the affairs of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, the Court in a separate ruling also granted prayers sought by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State who bought forms during the 2018 Congresses but were denied right to participate in the party’s congresses in 2018.

Justice Omereji ruled that the complaints be incorporated in any new Congress the party plans to hold without having to pay for fresh forms.

The complaints, Dele Moses and nine others had approached the court to declare them authentic candidates for APC congresses in Rivers State.

The court granted their prayers that they be allowed to participate in fresh congresses organized by the APC in the state.

Omeriji however advised warring factions of the party against appealing the judgement and pursue internal reconcilation.
Meanwhile, lawyer to APC, Emenike Ebete said the party will appeal the judgment.
