The Abia state chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Chief Okezie Ugboaja has disclosed that the nation must embrace restructuring, if she must overcome the various security challenges confronting her like insurgency.
In a chat with our Political reporter, chief Ugboaja said the spate of development in recent time, is far below the level of growth recorded in the 60s.
According to him,the nation during her earlier years was at peace compared to now, when the reverse would have been the case, leaving enemity for our children to inherit.
He said the nation has completely left the ingredients of growth and started chasing over shadows, lamenting that the nation has been crawling for the past 59 years.
The Local Government boss stated that before now, Nigeria was an agrarian society with a great concentration on the export of agricultural produce like cocoa, disclosing that the emergence of crude oil resulted to the abandoning of agriculture, which has contributed to the various economic challenges the nation is faced with.
“We are now a society of certificates, and not a society of professionals”,he added.
Ugboaja further noted that today energy consumption has increased with little or nothing done in the power sector to beef up energy generation that would be commensurate to the demand of power.
He, however, maintained that our leaders should embrace restructuring, as it would help showcase our ability and ingenuity to run ourselves, stressing that in the days of regional government, the country grew well, as there were healthy competitions among the various regions, adding that Nigeria would have been better off, if we had grown with that formula.
