Residents Decry Taskforce Brutality In Rivers

Residents of Port Harcourt, City Local Government have decried the outrageous and brutal the Task Force on illegal Trading and Motor Parks in Rivers state.

The lewd and wanton tendencies in carrying out their task force work has compelled people to call on their Chairman, Bright Amaehule to either tame his boys by disciplining them or send them for further training.

Respondents who bare their minds opined that they should see themselves as serving the public and not destroying people’s livelihood, especially this period of hardship that people are doing all menial jobs to provide a meal per a day, for their families.

For the past days, their activities became questionable as they always fought with people and destroy their goods.

Recently, for example along Ikwerre Road, by 9:30pm, the Task Force was seen destroying people’s wares.

“In many cases”, according to Abraham a Bus Driver, “when they fail to force money out from us, they beat us like children because they come with Police. At times, we resist them when they are on illegal activities.

In many case, they cause accidents on the road when they pursue drivers who could have violated the law.

“They have to follow rules establishing them” He state.

They are established to bring orderliness on our roads, controlling the traffic, and check the blocking of streets and roads by hawkers, traders, but rather they only interested in looking for defaulters.

Dr. Miracle Harry, suggests that the Task Force be properly trained or attached to Paramilitary organization to checkmate and curb their excesses and corrupt practices, stating that rules be established to discipline corrupt officials which will serve as a deterrent to all.
