Report Non-performing Contractors, Faulty Streetlights – Rivers Govt Tells Residents

In a bid to keep Port-Harcourt and its environs well-lit and secure, the Rivers State Ministry of Power has urged residents to promptly report non performing contractors and faulty streetlights to government.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry acknowledged complaints about streetlight failures in Obiri-Ikwerre and some parts of Port Harcourt, assuring residents that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is committed to addressing the issue.

The statement, signed by Sir Engr. Meshack Orji, Technical Assistant to the Hon. Commissioner for Power, Hon. Prince Solomon Abel Eke, further revealed that since assuming office, Governor Fubara has not only ensured regular payment for streetlight maintenance but has also cleared outstanding debts left by the previous administration over the last eight years.

“The Rivers State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, remains committed to ensuring that all streets and public spaces are adequately illuminated for security, safety, and economic activities,” the statement read.

Hon. Prince Solomon Eke, the Commissioner for Power, has directed all contractors responsible for streetlight maintenance to intensify efforts, warning that negligence will not be tolerated.

“We will not accept any delays or excuses that compromise the safety and well-being of our people. Contractors must step up, and residents should also help by reporting areas experiencing prolonged darkness,” he stated.

Residents were encouraged to play a role by reporting any faulty streetlights for swift intervention.

“For prompt action, please report any faulty streetlights to the Rivers State Ministry of Power via the following contacts: +2348033107510, +2348035469755, +2348036723640, +2348108971243, +2348033798661.”
