Remain On Guard In The Fight Against Polio, Ikpeazu Tells Rotary Club

 

 

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has applauded the Rotary Club International for their humanitarian efforts in eradication of polio disease in Nigeria and Africa.

Governor Ikpeazu who was speaking when a delegation of Rotary Club International led by the District Governor 9142, Rotr. Ndukwe Chukwu paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Umuahia,urged them to remain on guard in the fight against the disease especially now that Nigeria and Africa have been certified polio free.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere assured the members of Rotary Club that the state government will give them all the necessary support to succeed

He commended them for choosing Abia as venue for the Rotary Foundation Seminar as well as for nominating an indigene of Abia state, Rotarian Grace Okaro as the next District Governor of the club come 2022.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Governor of District 9142 of the Rotary Club , Rotarian Ndukwe Chukwu disclosed that the Rotary Foundation Seminar billed to hold in the state this weekend, is a celebration of the end of Polio in Nigeria and Africa having been certified free of the disease.

According to him, the event will afford them opportunity to honour those who contributed in the fight against polio disease by way of advocacy, voluntary services and donations.

Rotarian Chukwu also noted that their visit is also geared towards sensitizing the people of the potentials embedded in the club as well as solicit the support of Abia State Government.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the induction of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, as a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club.
