Religious leaders praise Abia governor during ecclesiastical visit

Abia State Governor Alex Otti is receiving praise from church leaders for what they describe as major strides in governance. The commendations came during a three-day visit by Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, President-General of the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu received the Archbishop on Otti’s behalf, calling the visit an endorsement of the state’s leadership. He said the administration took office at a time of decline and has since focused on reform and transparency.

“The people of Abia made a clear choice,” Emetu told the gathering. “The Church stood firm with us—offering prayers, moral guidance, and support. We are grateful, and we call on you to continue standing with us as we advance good governance.”

Archbishop Kawas praised Otti for what he called a “remarkable departure from the past.” He said the governor’s work in urban renewal, infrastructure, and economic development has drawn national attention.

“Governor Otti has raised the standard of leadership not only in Abia but across the country,” Kawas said. “The difference is night and day compared to two years ago.”

Other bishops echoed the Archbishop’s remarks. Bishop Peace Chikwe noted that residents can “see changes on the streets and in the lives of ordinary citizens.” Bishop Kennedy Otti described the administration’s reforms as “inspiring” and pledged continued cooperation with government.

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria represents more than 400 bishops and senior gospel ministers nationwide. The visit ended with a prayer session for Otti, his deputy, and state officials, seeking what leaders described as “divine wisdom and strength” in governance.
