Religious Leaders Laud Governor Otti’s Transformative Leadership During Ecclesiastical Visit to Abia.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has continued to receive commendations for his administration’s developmental strides, as he welcomed the President-General of the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, His Eminence Archbishop Prof. Leonard Bature Kawas, to Abia State on a three-day ecclesiastical visit.
Deputy Governor Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu received the Archbishop on behalf of the Governor, describing the visit as a strong affirmation of the growing confidence in the state’s leadership. In his address, Emetu reflected on the state’s condition prior to the current administration, calling it “a time of severe decline” and likening it to “a journey through darkness.”
He noted that the Otti-led administration came into office at a moment of urgent need for reform and has since remained focused on delivering lasting change. He also acknowledged the significant role played by the Christian community during the 2023 general elections, praising their moral support and spiritual intercession as instrumental to the administration’s success.
“The people of Abia made a clear choice,” the Deputy Governor said. “The Church stood firm with us—offering prayers, moral guidance, and visible support. We are deeply grateful, and we call on you to continue standing with us as we advance the cause of good governance in our state.”
He further reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive leadership driven by fairness, transparency, and service to the people. Emetu described the Church as an essential ally in societal development, saying the government would continue to engage faith-based organizations as partners in progress.
In his remarks, Archbishop Kawas commended Governor Otti for what he described as a remarkable departure from the past. He noted that within a short time in office, the Governor has demonstrated uncommon courage, vision, and commitment to repositioning Abia for greatness.
“Governor Otti has raised the standard of leadership not only in Abia but across the country,” the Archbishop stated. “Your work in urban renewal, infrastructure, and economic development has caught national attention. You are now widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most effective governors.”
Recalling a visit to Abia two years ago, Archbishop Kawas said the transformation since then has been extraordinary. “The difference is night and day. What was once an environment overwhelmed by decay is now visibly progressing. We are proud to have stood with you and will continue to support your mission.”
He emphasized that both political and spiritual leadership are sacred responsibilities, warning that history will ultimately judge all leaders by the legacies they leave behind. Kawas expressed confidence that the Otti administration is already securing its place as a positive force in Abia and Nigeria at large.
Joining the Archbishop in praise were other prominent church leaders who accompanied him on the visit. Archbishop Joshua Roberts, Bishop Dr. Kennedy Otti, and Bishop Dr. Peace Chikwe all echoed similar sentiments, applauding the Governor’s dedication to service and calling for deeper collaboration between the Church and government.
“These are not just changes on paper. We can see them on the streets and in the lives of ordinary citizens,” said Bishop Chikwe. “We are not only observers—we are willing partners in this journey of restoring Abia.”
Bishop Dr. Kennedy Otti added, “What is happening in Abia under Governor Otti is inspiring. We stand ready to work hand-in-hand with the administration to entrench lasting governance reforms that benefit every citizen.”
The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria is a respected Christian body comprising over 400 bishops and senior gospel ministers, with a nationwide network of followers and a strong presence in Abia State.
A highlight of the visit was a special intercessory prayer session led by Archbishop Kawas and his fellow bishops, where they offered prayers for Governor Otti, Deputy Governor Emetu, the State Executive Council, and other government officials—seeking divine wisdom, strength, and protection in their duties.
